Well firstly you must know that sensitive skin is a result of your genes, certain medical conditions & medications, hormonal changes and certain skin diseases. Also sensitive skin can be triggered by seasonal changes, sun exposure, stress, un-known inherent allergies etc.
WELL if you feel you have sensitive skin take note- what we usually perceive as sensitive skin can also actually be a SENSITIZED SKIN. The number of people having a sensitized skin is increasing day by day and this was discussed in details at a recently held dermatology conference in Delhi.
Sensitized skin is a skin in which the natural epidermal lipid barrier of the skin is disrupted- allowing irritants, microbes and allergens to penetrate the skin and cause adverse reactions. The reason for developing a sensitized skin can be your lifestyle (excessive smoking, alcohol, poor diet), frequent facials or exfoliation sittings and most importantly choosing wrong skincare products. I know this will come as a surprise to you but it is extremely important to know what you are putting on your skin.
Therefore make sure you use only those skincare products that are skin pH friendly preferably having a pH of 5.5 or between 4 to 5.5, formulated specifically for your skin type/ concerns/ needs, are free off skin irritants (fragrances, colorant dyes, cooling ingredients like menthol, alcohols, plant oils like eucalyptus, peppermint etc) and are safe (do not contain toxic/ harmful ingredients in them) for application on human skin.
