SKINCARE DO’S & DON’TS WINTERS (Winter Skin & Hair care)

   DO’s

  • DO TRY TO USE ONLY LUKEWARM WATER FOR FACE AND BODY.
  • DO LIMIT THE USE OF CLEANSER/ FACE WASH TO ONCE A DAY. (If cleansing more than once is inevitable then use cleansing lotion for it.)
  • DO EXFOLIATE 1-2 TIMES A WEEK USING A GENTLE EXFOLIATOR.
  • DO SWITCH OVER TO A MORE NOURISHING AND HEAVY MOISTURISER/CREAM. (If you are prone to acne then opt for a heavy yet non-comedogenic moisturiser/cream. Consider ingredients such as ceramides, glycerin, shea butter, lactic acid, essential oils, dimethicones, colloidal oatmeal and soy.)
  • DO APPLY MOISTURISER 2-3 TIMES A DAY. (Preferably apply moisturiser immediately after a shower/face wash when the skin is still slightly moist.)
  • DO REMEMBER TO APPLY AN EYE CREAM DURING WINTERS.
  • DO REMEMBER TO PROVIDE MAXIMUM CARE TO YOUR LIPS AS THE SKIN ON THE LIPS IS THIN AND EXTREMELY SENSITIVE TO SEASONAL CHANGES. (Apply petroleum jelly, lip balm rich in waxes or vegetable oil. Preferably apply moisturising lipsticks or lip gloss. Also always carry a lip balm with you during winters.)
  • DO WEAR GLOVES AND SCARVES TO PROTECT YOUR SKIN AS WELL AS HAIR FROM COLD WINDS.
  • DO APPLY A CONDITIONER AFTER WASHING YOUR HAIR. (Dandruff and split ends is extremely common in winters; so try to keep your hairs moisturized.)
  • DO ADD A WEEKLY MOISTURISING FACE PACK/ MASK TO YOUR REGIME. (Packs made using avocado extracts and olive oil prove to be very helpful during winters.)
  • DO APPLY SUNSCREEN EVEN IF YOU ARE STEPPING OUT IN THE SUN BRIEFLY.
  • DO KEEP YOUR SKIN HYDRATED. Consume around 2 lts of water everyday even if you don’t feel thirsty.
  • DO REMEMBER TO USE SKINCARE PRODUCTS THAT CATER TO YOUR SPECIFIC SKIN TYPE/ NEEDS. (Also only choose those skincare products which do not contain toxic/ harmful ingredients in them and are safe for use on human skin.)

DON’Ts

  • DON’T TAKE LONG SHOWERS/BATHS. (Limit your shower time to around 10 minutes.)
  • DON’T FORGET TO MOISTURISE YOUR HANDS AND FEET. (The skin on your hands is thin and has limited oil glands hence they require effective moisturisation.)
  • DON’T LICK YOUR CHAPPED LIPS IT CAN MAKE MATTERS WORSE.
  • DON’T SCRATCH DRY, ITCHY SKIN.
  • DON’T WASH YOUR HAIR TOO OFTEN.
  • DON’T USE ALCOHOL BASED SKINCARE OR MAKEUP PRODUCTS. (Alcohols strip oil and moisture from your skin.)
  • DON’T PUT YOUR SKIN THROUGH FREQUENT TEMPERATURE CHANGES. ALLOW YOUR SKIN TO ACLAMATISE BEFORE SWITCHING YOUR ENVIORNMENT. (Constantly coming indoors where it’s warm and then going back out in the cold can create havoc with the skin.)
  • DON’T GO OUT WITH WET HAIR (The cold temperature can enhance hair breakage and split ends.)
  • DON’T FORGET TO DEEP CONDITION AND OIL YOUR HAIR REGULARLY. (Cold temperatures can strip moisture from your hair & scalp.) COLOURED HAIR WILL FURTHER REQUIRE EXTRA NOURISHMENT.
  • DON’T WEAR WET SOCKS AND CLOTHES IT CAN IRRITATE YOUR SKIN CAUSING ITCHING.
  • DON’T USE MATT LIPSTICKS FOR YOUR LIPS.
  • DON’T SIT CLOSE TO FIREPLACE OR ARTIFICIAL HEATING DEVICES.
  • DON’T FORGET TO CONSULT A DERMATOLOGIST; WITHOUT ANY DELAY; IF YOU HAVE COLD SORES/ITCHING/ SKIN PROBLEM/ ISSUES.
